How one woman ran the background extras — at least part of her strategy — documented.
Look forward to AFTRA’s panel for background extras that’s in the works.

Structural integrity, that is.
Having had a top shelf buckle, was reluctant to cut without some testosterone-based reassurance from my peers. Check. Everyone seems to think a 2″ hole will be just fine.
The hole-cutting tools arrive tomorrow.
Whee!

As a woman in the biz’, working on a project created and continued by women in the biz’, maybe I feel more optimism than is warranted for women in the biz’.
The Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University is doing the science, counting the numbers and asking questions.
Here’s a .pdf of their 2010 study, that concludes, “women comprised 7 percent of directors, 10 percent of writers, 15 percent of executive producers, 24 percent of producers, 18 percent of editors and 2 percent of cinematographers. When considering all of these roles together, women accounted for just 16 percent of powerful behind-the-scenes individuals.”
Below-the-line, technically-oriented women like me don’t much register for purposes of their science. Oh well. Glad somebody’s paying attention.

This is urban legend, based on fear.
Sometimes, we live in fear.
A lot of what we fear has to do with a dearth of descriptive lexicon. What is ‘skrunchy’ anyway?

Saw this fellow’s full lecture on the subject of the paradox of choice @ Google video. One of the reasons I enjoy TED conference videos is it asks its speakers to condense their fine, large ideas into 18-minutes.
